The Association for the Study of Transfer Students is the professional organization of the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students and the only association exclusively dedicated to promoting transfer student success, advancing transfer research, and facilitating partnerships to enhance transfer.
Promoting Transfer Student Success
A definitive indicator of transfer student success is degree completion and transfer students require unique assistance to achieve this goal. ASTS supports practitioners dedicated to providing transfer programs and services by offering access to promising practices, a variety of online resources, and opportunities for knowledge exchange through professional development, publications and online communities.
Advancing Transfer Research
The varied needs of transfer students far exceed the research available to understand them. ASTS provides a link between scholars and practitioners and seeks to stimulate and support transfer research through a variety of activities including: awarding grants; disseminating data, project summaries, and other research sources; and providing professional development opportunities.
Successful transfer policies and practices are dependent upon productive relationships between two-year and four-year institutions. ASTS serves as the gateway for institutional and agency partnerships, providing strategies for successful collaboration, opportunities to identify potential alliances, and access to exemplary joint ventures.
ASTS reaches across departmental and divisional responsibilities and beyond institutional boundaries. Membership is encouraged for:
