As founder of the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS), Dr. Bonita C. Jacobs has played a significant role in advancing the national transfer conversation.
In 2002, Dr. Jacobs founded NISTS after identifying a lack of literature or professional development opportunities related to transfer students. NISTS originated as an annual conference to serve practitioners and administrators searching for ways to better understand and serve transfer students and has expanded to include a focus on research and policy.
Dr. Jacobs’ vision has allowed countless practitioners, researchers, and administrators to enhance the work they do with, and on behalf of, transfer students. Therefore it is truly fitting that an award meant to honor the commitment of these individuals bears her name.
